At first sight, Hong Kong’s modernity and the way it seems to appear, absolutely busy in its own world with its gushing traffic, misty steam-filled eateries, blinding street lights and bright neon-lit signboards might leave you overwhelmed. However, these very lights, life and legacies, somehow find a place in Asia’s world city. A former British colony until 1997, bustling Hong Kong extends from central Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour to the Kowloon Peninsula and outwards to include the New Territories. The outlying islands like Lantau, Lamma and Cheung Chau are lesser-known areas that are slowly becoming popular recreation spots. Standing below the magnificent Victoria Peak, this multi-ethnic city boasts of world-class attractions and entertainment options, larger-than-life shopping malls and eclectic cuisines from around the globe. Away from the mayhem of the 21st Century, the savoir-faire tourist will be surprised to come across fine glimpses of quaint tranquillity, rustic and far-flung trails and breathtaking views. A storehouse of energy at all hours, the motto of everyone who heads to Hong Kong is loud and clear – live and let live!
